ON-THE-WATER POWERBOAT TRAINING IN DARKNESS
For recreational boaters who want to enjoy extended sunset cruises or fishing in the pre-dawn hours, this course is essential. Our waterways look very different in the dark and we need to rely not only on our navigation systems, but also on the lighted aids to navigation that guided us before GPS.
What You Will Learn
Our Night Powerboat Course will teach you everything you need to learn to safely and confidently operate a powerboat after dark. Our hands-on training program includes:
- Use of GPS in Night Mode
- Use of Radar (if installed)
- Understanding the lighted ATONs and their flashing characteristics
- How to identify non-lighted ATONs
- Identifying other vessels and their direction based on their navigation lights
- Indentifying landmarks to aid in navigation

Course Details
Course Fees:
The price of the course is $450 if being conducted aboard your privately owned boat. If you need a boat to be provided for this training, we do offer a single engine powerboat (without radar) for an additional fee of $500, for a total cost of $950.
Course Length:
The Powerboat After Dark Course provides three hours of hands-on training aboard the boat.
Number of Trainees:
All of our on-the-water courses are private one-on-one sessions. But we do allow up to two trainees per session. There is no additional fee for the second trainee.
Prerequisite Training:
This is an advanced level course. You will need to complete the Florida Boating Safety Course (or approved equavalent), the Local Navigation Course, and the Single or Twin Powerboat Course prior to scheduling this course.
Course Schedule:
All of our on-the-water courses are offered Monday through Saturday, year-round.
